Helping grandparents start with AI

With voice typing and one good first question, older relatives can start using AI in an afternoon.

Many grandparents find small phone keyboards tiring, especially with Vietnamese accent marks. Voice typing fixes most of that. They tap the microphone, speak normally and the words appear on screen.

Start with something they care about. Ask about a recipe from their home town, how to care for an orchid, or the meaning of a Sino-Vietnamese word. A useful first answer builds confidence faster than any tutorial.

Write the steps on a small card: open the app, tap the microphone, speak, read the answer. Leave it next to the phone.

Then talk about scams. AI can now copy a voice from a short clip. If someone calls sounding like a grandchild and asks for money, they should hang up and call that person back on the number they already have.

Do it now

Set up a first chat together

  1. 1. Install a chatbot app on their phone and turn on voice typing in Vietnamese.
  2. 2. Let them ask their own first question out loud.
  3. 3. Write the four steps on a card and keep it by the phone.
  4. 4. Agree on a family rule: any call asking for money gets checked by calling back.
Please answer in simple Vietnamese, in short sentences, with large clear steps. My question is: how do I keep my orchids healthy during the rainy season?

Quick check

A caller sounds exactly like a grandchild and urgently asks for money. What is the safest step?
