Lesson 201 · 2 min

Writing a leave request

A good leave request gives the dates, the type of leave, who covers your work and how to reach you, in five lines or fewer.

Leave requests go wrong when they are vague ("I need a few days off soon") or when they leave your manager to solve the handover. A clear request is easy to say yes to.

Include the exact dates, the kind of leave (annual, sick, family, unpaid), who will cover urgent work, what you will finish before you go and whether you can be reached.

AI can draft this in seconds and adjust the tone, more formal for a big company and warmer for a small team. You do not need to explain private reasons in detail. "Family matter" is enough.

Leave rules come from your contract, your company policy and the labour law. Check those, or ask HR, before you plan around a number of days. A chatbot cannot know your company's rules.

Draft a request you can reuse

  1. 1. Fill in the prompt below with real or sample dates.
  2. 2. Read the draft and remove anything you would not want to share.
  3. 3. Save it as a template for next time.
