LinkedIn profiles and recommendation letters

Feed AI real facts about your work, and it can draft a profile summary or a recommendation that sounds like a real person wrote it.

Profile summaries and recommendations often read like they came from the same template: "hardworking, passionate, team player". Readers skip them.

Specific beats general. For a profile, give the AI your field, two or three results you are proud of and the kind of work you want next. Ask for a short summary in the first person.

For a recommendation letter, the writer should give AI one or two real stories about the person, with results. "She cut our invoice errors by half in three months" is worth more than ten adjectives.

Edit until it sounds like you. If you are writing a recommendation for someone, sign only what you truly believe. Your name is on it.

Do it now

Rewrite your profile summary

  1. 1. Write three real results from your work, with numbers if you have them.
  2. 2. Run the prompt below.
  3. 3. Cut any word that could describe anyone, like "passionate" or "dynamic".
Write a LinkedIn "About" section, 80 to 120 words, first person, plain and friendly. My field: [FIELD]. Three results I am proud of: [LIST]. What I want next: [GOAL]. Avoid cliches like "passionate", "dynamic" or "results-driven". Base everything on what I wrote.

The instruction or question you give an AI. Clearer prompts with context usually get much better answers.
Generative AI
