MCP for everyone: connecting AI to your apps
MCP is the shared plug that lets an assistant reach your apps, and as a user you mostly meet it as a connect button and a permission screen.

You do not need to know how MCP works to use it. In many assistants it appears as a list of connectors: a drive, a notes app, a project board, a calendar. You click connect, sign in to that app, and choose what the assistant may do.
After that you can ask for things that cross apps. "Find the latest contract in my drive and list the payment dates" or "Make a task on the board for each action item from this meeting." The assistant uses the connection to read or act, then tells you what it did.
Because MCP is an open standard, the same app connection can work with different assistants. That is why the list of connectors keeps growing, including ones made by small teams and individuals.
Two habits keep you safe. Give each connector the least access it needs, such as read-only when you only want answers. And remove connectors you stop using, because every open connection is one more door.
Do it now
Connect one app, read-only
- 1. Open your assistant's connectors or integrations page.
- 2. Connect one app you use daily and pick the smallest permission offered.
- 3. Ask a question only that app can answer, then disconnect it if it did not help.
Using my connected [APP NAME], find [WHAT YOU NEED] and summarise it in five bullets. Only read, do not change anything, and tell me which items you looked at.
