Lesson 126 · 2 min
Photos that leak your address
A photo can reveal where you live through hidden location data and small details in the background, and AI makes those clues faster to find.

Phone cameras can save the exact location inside the photo file. Many big social apps remove this when you post, but files sent as documents, by email or through some apps can keep it.
The background often says more: a house number, a street sign, the view from your balcony, a school logo on a uniform. AI image tools can now guess a place from views like these.
Scammers and stalkers combine these clues with your holiday posts, so they learn where you live and when the house is empty.
Turn off location tagging in your camera if you do not need it, crop or blur details before posting, and share trip photos after you get home.
Do it now
Audit your last five posts
- 1. Open your profile and look at your last five photos as a stranger would.
- 2. Note any house numbers, street names, school names or views that point to your home.
- 3. Delete or edit any that give too much away, and check your camera's location setting.
