Lesson 232 · 3 min

AI for a shrimp farmer

A shrimp farmer who writes down pond readings every day can use AI to spot patterns early, while the vet and the extension officer handle the diagnosis.

Shrimp ponds change fast. Many farmers already measure things like pH, temperature, salinity and how much feed the shrimp eat, but the numbers sit in a notebook and nobody looks at them together.

AI can help you turn those notes into a simple table and spot trends. Paste a week of readings and ask: which days looked different from the rest, and did feed use drop at the same time? A drop in appetite is often the first sign something is wrong.

You can also take a photo of a handwritten log and ask the chatbot to type it into a table. Check the result against the paper, because handwriting and smudged numbers are easy to misread.

Do not let a chatbot diagnose disease or tell you which chemical to use. Those decisions need a lab test, the product label and advice from your local aquaculture extension office or a trusted technician.

Do it now

Turn a week of notes into a table

  1. 1. Collect seven days of pond readings, on paper or in your phone.
  2. 2. Type or photograph them and paste them into a chatbot with the prompt below.
  3. 3. Compare the table with your notebook, then look at the days it flags.
Here are my shrimp pond readings for the last 7 days: [DATE, POND, pH, TEMPERATURE, SALINITY, FEED IN KG, NOTES]. Put them in a table. Then tell me, in plain words, which days look unusual compared with the others and what I should ask my technician about. Do not recommend any chemical or medicine.

Quick check

Your shrimp suddenly eat much less. What is a sensible role for AI here?
