AI for a tour guide

A tour guide can use AI to prepare stories, practise a new language and plan the day, then check the history before telling it to guests.

A good tour guide is half teacher and half host. AI can help with the preparation: a short story about a pagoda, a list of questions guests often ask, or a simple plan for a day in Hội An with rain backup.

It is also a patient language partner. Ask it to play a guest from Korea or Germany who asks questions in simple English, and practise answering out loud. You can ask it to correct your phrasing afterwards.

History is where AI slips. It may mix up dates, dynasties or who built what. Check the key facts in a guidebook, a museum sign or an official tourism site before you say them to a group.

On the day, a chatbot can help with quick translations of a menu or a sign, but keep a human backup for anything that matters, such as allergies or medical needs.

Do it now

Practise with a pretend guest

  1. 1. Pick one place you guide people around.
  2. 2. Start a chat with the prompt below and answer each question as you would on tour.
  3. 3. At the end, ask for three phrases you could say more naturally.
Pretend you are a tourist from [COUNTRY] on my walking tour of [PLACE] in Vietnam. Ask me one question at a time, in simple English, like a real curious guest. After 5 questions, give me friendly feedback on my answers and suggest better phrases.

Quick check

AI gives you a great story about the year a temple was built. What should you do before telling guests?
