AI for a café owner

A café owner can hand AI the small writing and planning jobs that eat up the quiet hours, and keep the coffee and the customers for themselves.

Running a café means a hundred small jobs: the menu board, the Zalo message about the new drink, the weekly order of milk and ice, the sign that says the shop closes early on Sunday. AI is good at exactly these small writing and planning tasks.

Start with the menu. Tell a chatbot your drinks and prices, such as iced milk coffee at 25,000 dong or salted coffee at 30,000 dong, and ask for short, friendly descriptions in Vietnamese and English for tourists. Pick the ones that sound like you.

It can also help you think. Paste last week's sales by drink and ask which items sell slowly and what a small change might be: a smaller size, a combo with a bánh mì, or a morning discount for students.

AI does not know your street, your regulars or what the café across the road charges. Treat its ideas as a starting list, and test one small change at a time before you reprint anything.

Do it now

Write a two-language menu in ten minutes

  1. 1. Write your drinks and prices on one list.
  2. 2. Paste the list into a chatbot with the prompt below.
  3. 3. Read every line out loud. Fix anything that does not sound like your shop, then check the prices one more time.
I run a small café in [CITY]. Here are my drinks and prices in dong: [LIST]. Write a menu with a one-line description for each drink, in Vietnamese first and English underneath. Keep it warm and simple, no exaggeration. Do not change any price.

Quick check

AI suggests three new drinks for your café. What should you do first?

Words from this lesson

Prompt
The instruction or question you give an AI. Clearer prompts with context usually get much better answers.
Generative AI
AI that produces new text, images, audio, video or code, rather than only sorting or scoring existing things.
