Teachers: questions at every level

Ask AI for questions that climb from recall to reasoning, and one topic gives you work for every student in the room.

Not all questions test the same thing. Some check that students remember a fact. Others ask them to explain, apply the idea to a new case, compare, or judge.

Ask AI to sort questions by level. "Write 2 remember questions, 2 understand, 2 apply and 2 analyse questions on photosynthesis for grade 7." Many teachers know this ladder from Bloom's taxonomy, and the model knows it too.

Ask for an answer key and what a strong answer to the higher questions looks like. That makes marking faster and fairer.

Read every question before using it. Check that each one has a clear correct answer, uses words your students know, and matches your curriculum.

Build a question ladder

  1. 1. Choose a topic you are teaching this week.
  2. 2. Use the prompt below.
  3. 3. Try one higher level question on your class and see who answers.
Topic: [TOPIC], grade [GRADE].
Write 8 questions in 4 levels, 2 per level: remember, understand, apply, analyse.
Label each level. Give an answer key, and for the apply and analyse questions describe what a strong answer includes.

Quick check

"Use what you learned about floating to design a boat from household items" is which kind of question?

Prompt
The instruction or question you give an AI. Clearer prompts with context usually get much better answers.
