AI at school: rules and honesty

Each school and teacher may set different AI rules, so ask first, use AI to help you learn, and say when you used it.

Some teachers allow AI for brainstorming, some for checking grammar, and some ban it for certain tasks. Breaking the rule can count as cheating, even if the work is good.

The safest habit is to ask: "Can I use AI for this, and how?" Then follow the answer and keep a short note of what you used it for.

Use AI as a tutor. Ask it to explain a step, quiz you, or give feedback on your draft. If it writes the essay for you, you skip the learning that the exam will test.

Be honest when you use it, and check its facts. AI can invent quotes and sources, and handing in false information is worse than handing in a simple answer.

Do it now

Use AI as a tutor, not a ghostwriter

  1. 1. Pick a homework topic you find hard.
  2. 2. Use the prompt below so the AI guides you instead of answering.
  3. 3. Write your own answer, then ask it for feedback.
I am learning about [TOPIC] for school. Do not give me the answer. Ask me one question at a time to help me work it out, and explain where I go wrong.

Quick check
