Lesson 143 · 2 min
Is that support chat a bot or a human?
Many customer service chats and calls are run by AI first, so ask directly, ask for a person when you need one, and never share passwords or codes with either.

Companies use AI agents to answer common questions in chat, by email and even by phone with natural voices. They can be helpful for simple tasks like tracking a package.
Signs of a bot: instant long replies, the same polite phrases, trouble with unusual problems, or replies that ignore part of your question. Simply asking "Am I talking to a bot?" often works, and many companies say so at the start.
For complaints, refunds or anything complex, ask for a human agent. Write a short summary of your problem and any order numbers so you do not repeat yourself.
Whether it is a bot or a human, real support never asks for your password or one-time code. Start support only from the official app or website.
Do it now
Prepare a support message
- 1. Think of a recent problem with an order or a service.
- 2. Write three lines: what happened, what you want, and your order number.
- 3. Next time you contact support, paste it first and ask for a human if the bot cannot help.
