Using AI safely for health questions

AI can help you understand a diagnosis or prepare questions for your doctor, but it cannot examine you and may be confidently wrong.

Good uses: explaining a medical term in simple words, summarising what a test measures, or making a list of questions to bring to an appointment.

Risky uses: asking it to diagnose you, change medicine doses, or decide whether you need a doctor. It does not know your history and can miss serious warning signs.

Keep your privacy. Leave out your name, ID number and photos of records with personal details. Check its answers with a doctor, a pharmacist or an official health site.

If symptoms are severe or sudden, like chest pain, difficulty breathing or weakness on one side of the body, skip the chatbot and call 115 or go to the nearest emergency room.
