Teach teens about money with AI

AI can play a shopkeeper, a bank officer or a future self, so teenagers practise money choices in conversation instead of hearing a lecture.

Teenagers tune out money talks from parents. They lean in when they get to try things. A chatbot that takes on a role, such as a phone seller pushing an instalment plan, turns a lesson into a small game.

Lì xì money is a perfect starting point. Ask your teen to plan how to split it: some to spend, some to save, some for a goal like a bicycle. The chatbot can ask questions, show how long the goal will take, and cheer them on.

It can also explain compound growth with simple numbers: money that earns a little each year, and then earns on those earnings too. Seeing the curve over ten or twenty years makes saving early click. Ask it to use round, made-up rates and say they are examples.

Sit with them, at least at first. Talk about what the AI got right, where it oversimplified, and how a real bank or shop might differ. Learning to question the chatbot is part of the lesson.

Do it now

Role-play an instalment deal

  1. 1. Sit with your teen and open a chatbot together.
  2. 2. Paste the prompt below and let your teen talk to the "seller".
  3. 3. Afterwards, ask together: how much extra did the plan cost, and was it worth it?
Play a friendly but persuasive phone shop seller in Vietnam. I am a 15 year old who wants a new phone. Offer me an instalment plan. After five messages, step out of the role and explain, with simple example numbers, how much more the plan costs than paying cash, and what questions I should have asked.
